£10m bid would ‘almost certainly’ be enough for Leeds to seal midfield transfer

According to Wales Online, Leeds United’s bid for Swansea City midfielder Flynn Downes will be accepted if it is substantial enough.

The 23-year-old is a target for Jesse Marsch as he prepares for his first transfer window in charge at Elland Road.

A bid of £10million for Kieron Dyer’s England Under-20 international is possible, according to Kieron Dyer, and Leeds would be able to afford it.

Downes has been a vital player of Russell Martin’s Swansea squad so far this season, but the majority of Swansea fans didn’t expect him to arrive in the upcoming transfer window.

Victor Orta needs to be able to walk away if Swansea demand £10million as Dyer suggests they should, and concentrate on other things.

Brenden Aaronson has been heavily linked to Elland Road for a long time, and Nottingham Forest’s James Garner is now thriving in the Championship promotion chase.

Downes, who is 23 years old, is younger and arguably better than both of these players, therefore why the club is interested in the 23-year-old is a mystery.

It may have been possible to justify signing the Swansea player above Garner or Aaronson if he were still a teenager and performing at the level he is now in the second tier, but it seems unlikely.
