The EPL this past weekend was characterized by rains of goals, and among those whose net was shaken more than wanted or planned was Everton.
Rafa Benitez’s side was thrashed a shocking 2-5 at home on Saturday, and now stand seventh on the table with similar points to three other teams, 14.
Everton’s midfield was clearly lacking, and Abdoulaye Doucoure’s absence due to injury was felt throughout the game as the toffees just couldn’t keep up. Benitez therefore had to go back to the drawing board as far as his midfield is concerned, and he did, according to The Athletic.
The Spanish coach has apparently settled on 18-year old British sensation, Tyler Onyango, and the youngster might appear in Everton’s match against 11th placed Wolves next Monday.
Onyango, who has been out on injury for half a year, is believed to be able to fill Doucoure’s shoes and hold his team’s ball possession given his box-to-box playing style.
To get a solid team that can successfully challenge Wolves, then face the Spurs and the Citizens in their EPL matches thereafter, Benitez will need a player of Onyango’s caliber and drive, so the latter might have a chance to make the Toffees first eleven.
All is not decided though, and the half-Kenyan will have to wait for Rafa’s decision, because no matter how good he is, Onyango mightn’t have enough senior team experience to successfully face tough opponents.
