Rodrigo Javier De Paul transfer

It is a tussle as both Liverpool and Leeds United are in talks with Serie A side Udinese Calcio over a potential move for Argentine playmaker Rodrigo Javier De Paul.

The 26-year-old has proven to be a key player in the Udinese squad, appearing in all 17 league games this season scoring four goals and making one assist.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side was the first to show interest in De Paul, tabling an offer of €25 million during the last transfer window that was declined by Udinese as they stated that they would take nothing less than €35 million for the player.

Leeds looked over to Bayern Munich’s 21-year-old Michael Cuisance as an alternative. The agreed €20 million deal for him, however, did not go through over speculations of a failed medical test in Leeds by the Frenchman although both Bayern and Cuisance and termed the news as fake.

This position has taken the Whites back to the drawing board. From reports, they are drafting yet another offer to present to Udinese as Leeds transfer chief Victor Orta says it is adamant for his side to sign De Paul. Bielsa told The Sun that he isn’t sure whether to bid this January or wait till the end of the season.

On the other hand, Jurgen Klopp is looking to bolster his attacking options by bringing the attacking midfielder to Anfield. De Paul could be a permanent replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum who has refused to renew his contract and is on his way to Barcelona.

Liverpool have already opened talks with an offer of €31.5 million. According to Fabrizio Romano, Udinese have spiked the transfer fee for De Paul following the interest by the reigning Premier League Champions.

Rodrigo Javier De Paul’s future

Udinese Vice President Stefano Campoccia made it clear last week that they will not easily let go their star player saying, “De Paul is a talented player and a point of reference for our team. He is a jewel and jewel costs. The proposal did not meet our requests, for less than €40 million he does not move.”

Inter Milan and Juventus were also eyeing De Paul, who made it clear that he wants to play in the Premier League.
