Borussia Dortmund’s winger Jadon Sancho will miss their clash against Sevilla in Tuesday’s Champions League match.
The club informed the German media that the winger is still recovering from a thigh injury.
In an interview with the Kicker magazine, sporting director Michael Zorc confirmed that Sancho could miss the second leg match in the round of 16.
The England international also missed their clash against Bayern Munich, where they lost 4-2 at Allianz Arena.
“It’s a big loss for us, especially given the form Jadon has been in recently,” said Zorc. He also pointed out Sancho’s three goals which he scored in the last three matches.
The winger picked up the thigh injury last Tuesday in the match against Borussia Moenchengladbach in the German Cup quarterfinal, where they won.
The Bundesliga club did not mention the exact date when Sancho will return, but he will be unavailable beyond Tuesday’s match.
The German club last qualified for the Champions League round of eight in 2017. They have a 3-2 win advantage against Sevilla and looking forward to moving to the next round.
For Jadon Sancho qualify for the next round of the Champions League, they will have to recover from the 4-2 loss against Bayern Munich, where Sancho missed the clash.
Jerome Boateng twisted his knee in the second half of the match, but the club insists that the injury is less severe than earlier feared.
“Jerome Boateng suffered a strained left knee capsule…the diagnosis was made following an examination by the FC Bayern medical department,” Bayern said in a statement.
The club also mentioned that Boateng is in the individual rehabilitation programme, and he will be available in the next matches.
According to reports, Dortmund is also likely to be without Raphael Guerreiro in the Champions League on Tuesday.
The good news is that Erling Haaland is in good form, and he will be there in Tuesday’s match.
