Greenwood withdraws from England U21 squad

According to the Football Association (FA), Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood has withdrawn from England’s team for the Euro Under-21 Championship due to an injury.

Greenwood, who scored in United’s FA Cup quarter-final loss to Leicester City on Sunday, has been replaced in Aidy Boothroyd’s 23-man squad by Norwich City midfielder Todd Cantwell.

According to Opta statistics, Greenwood, 19, has scored 22 goals since the start of last season, the most by a teenager in any of Europe’s top five leagues.

On Thursday, England takes on Switzerland before facing Portugal (March 28) and Croatia (March 31) in the group stage.

The tournament’s knockout rounds will take place in May and June, and will be co-hosted by Hungary and Slovenia.
