Manchester United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praised Mason Greenwood following his outstanding performance in the match against Brighton & Hove Albion.
With the manager noting that Greenwood had added a new dimension to how he plays, the 19-year-old scored the winning goal on Sunday to keep United out of pressure in the second spot in the Premier League table.
“I’m so happy for him… When he gets those goals, we know that he’s going to add another dimension to his game,” said Solskjaer, who will be without defender Eric Bailly for “a little while” after he tested positive for Covid-19 on international duty with Ivory Coast.
“I’m pleased with his overall performance again very good. He was bright, tidy, clean on the ball, hit the post and one that went over the bar, maybe deflected, in the second half.”
Anthony Martial will miss the remaining games in the league due to a knee injury. Therefore, Greenwood is likely to feature more regularly for United till the end of the season.
Goalkeeper Dean Henderson has started for United in the last seven consecutive games, with Solkjaer noting how difficult it is to decide between Henderson and De Gea. The decision to bench De Gea has therefore brought a lot of concerns about the Spaniard’s future.
“I’ve got two great goalkeepers and it’s about now to find games that both of them will play,” said Solskjaer. “Both of them deserve to play more than what they do and it’s just a decision I have to make every time.”
Manchester United are in the second spot in the Premier League table with 60 points. The league leaders Man City have 74 points but with one more game played.
