Chelsea are reportedly willing to pay the €70 million needed to sign Raphael Varane this summer.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Blues have increased their interest in Varane, pulling ahead of both Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain in the race.

Varane is a clear target for Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, according to the article, and the club is now ready to negotiate Real Madrid’s €70 million transfer fee for the France international.

Chelsea would benefit from an improvement on unsatisfying players like Antonio Rudiger, Kurt Zouma, and Andreas Christensen, so this would be a good move.

The Blues have been in excellent form since Tuchel took over as manager from Frank Lampard, but there is always room for improvement, and Varane will add consistency and experience to this team.

The 28-year-old is approaching the end of his deal at the Bernabeu, so it’s possible that Madrid will try to sell him this summer.

Varane would have been a good addition for United, as many believe they still lack a quality partner for Harry Maguire.

Victor Lindelof possesses the necessary attributes but falls short of being the type of elite player required to help a club like Manchester United win major trophies, while Eric Bailly has impressed but has struggled to stay fit.
