Man City fans gather to celebrate title glory

Jubilant Man City fans gathered outside the Etihad Stadium to celebrate the team’s Premier League title triumph after arch-rivals Manchester United were beaten 2-1 by Leicester on Tuesday.

Several hundred City supporters descended on the Etihad to start their title party following the result across Manchester at Old Trafford.

Pep Guardiola’s side wrapped up their third Premier League title in four seasons with three games to spare.

Fans are not allowed into Premier League games at present due to the coronavirus restrictions – a rule which will change next week, in time for around 10 000 City supporters to see the trophy presented at the home game against Everton on May 23.

But in the meantime, the City faithful took to the streets round the Etihad to celebrate, with flares and banners creating a colourful backdrop to the joyous chanting.

“It feels amazing, the greatest feeling is winning the Premier League. Better than any other in football. Love it!” City fan Graham Warner told AFP.

“We may have a few drinks tonight. Definitely. And a few more drinks if we win the Champions League. Or when we win the Champions League!”

Referencing City’s Blue Moon anthem, overjoyed fan Shane Graham said: “Amazing, out of this world. You can say we are in the blue moon!”

City joined the celebrations by unveiling a giant sky blue banner on the outside of the stadium once the final whistle blew in the United game.

Guardiola paid tribute to the City fans for their backing in such a difficult period as the country deals with the Covid-19 fall-out.

“It is so important to say a huge thank you to all our fans. In our toughest moments, we couldn’t hear the crowd get behind us as usual, but we know they are with us everywhere we go and that has lifted us,” he said.

“I promise them we sense their love, we appreciate it and we could not have done what we have done without it. I hope we can all celebrate together one day not too far away.”

City had already won the League Cup in April and can cap a memorable campaign by winning their first Champions League crown later this month.

They face Chelsea in the final on May 29, with the venue set to be switched from Istanbul to either Portugal or England, ensuring at least some City fans will be able to attend.

“Pep Guardiola is the greatest manager in the history of English football. And hopefully, we’re going to cap it all in a couple of weeks with the big one,” City supporter Charlie Hibber said.

Tottenham Hotspur host defending Premier League champions Manchester City tomorrow in the standout fixture of the opening weekend of the 2021-22 Premier league season.

The Cityzens will be looking to put their strong foot forward in a bid to defend their title after a poor start to the season by losing the Community Shield to Leicester.

Spurs have had a summer of flux, and now they have a new manager, Nuno Espirito Santo and new signings Cristian Romero, Pierluigi Gollini and Bryan Gil.

Manchester City on the other hand have made a record signing in the club’s history, cashing out £100 million for England international Jack Grealish and players such as Cole Palmer and Sam Edozie rising up the ranks from the EDS side to the first team.

Spurs main man Harry Kane is back in training and has made himself available to be selected in the squad against City despite being linked with a move to City.

Let’s take a look at how the two sides might line up.

Kane has been back at the club in the build up to this game.

According to Nuno, the two have held talks and Kane could be involved tomorrow despite the continued speculation of the player departing the club.

New signing Romero is unlikely to be involved  as he was part of the Argentinian squad that won the Copa America and has done minimal training with his new team mates.

Tanguy Ndombele will also not be involved with Nuno yet to include him in the first team squad.

Tottenham will be short of  centre back after Toby Alderweireld left the club this summer.

Erik Lamela is also another first team departure.

Manchester City are yet to have the services of key players Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden with the two being out injured.

Both players were sidelined for last weekend’s 1-0 Community Shield defeat by Leicester, with Pep Guardiola stating that the duo would be out “for a while”, with De Bruyne likely to return ahead of Foden.

The likes of Ederson, Gabriel Jesus, John Stones, Raheem Sterling and Kyle Walker were also absent from Wembley, but are now back in training following their summer international exertions.

Record signing Jack Grealish will be pushing for a Premier League debut.

Sterling hopes for more goals after big signing Grealish's arrival

Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling believes the club’s 100 million-pound ($138.11 million) record signing Jack Grealish will help him score more goals as Pep Guardiola’s team aim to retain their Premier League title this season.

Sterling scored 14 goals in all competitions last season, 17 fewer than he did in the 2019-20 campaign, as City won the title and reached the final of the Champions League.

The 26-year-old backed Grealish to thrive at City after the former Aston Villa captain moved to the Etihad Stadium last week, becoming the most expensive player https://www.reuters.com/lifestyle/sports/man-city-sign-playmaker-grealish-villa-six-year-deal-2021-08-05 in Premier League history.

“He (Grealish) is a player that always wants the ball, he gets in good pockets of space and he is creative,” Sterling told City’s website https://www.mancity.com/news/mens/raheem-sterling-on-jack-grealish-63764394.

“It adds another creative player to this team which I am really excited about so hopefully he can add a few more goals to my tally.

“When you add good players to your team it is always a good thing. He is a player I believe can truly have a great career here.”

Grealish, who wears the number 10 jersey which was vacated by the departure of City’s long-serving striker Sergio Aguero, made his debut for the club in last weekend’s Community Shield defeat by Leicester City.

The England midfielder will be hoping to play his first Premier League match for City in their league opener at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Aston Villa determined to keep Jack Grealish

Manchester City have expressed great interest in England international Grealish, with the Premier League winners indicating that they will make an official offer after Euro 2020.

Villa, on the other hand, are adamant about keeping their star, and last month began talks with his representatives about a new, better agreement.

Grealish is presently on break after his summer achievements with England, and things are likely to pick up when he returns to Bodymoor Heath for pre-season preparation.

Last year in September, the 25-year-old agreed to a five-year contract worth roughly £125,000 per week, but Villa are willing to pay him a hefty raise if he agrees to return.

With the next Premier League campaign less than a month away, Villa will intensify their efforts to bolster their attacking ranks.

Emi Buendia, the new £33 million record signing, reported for his first day of training on Monday. Argentina winger Julian Alvarez has also been linked with Villa.
