Bielsa keen to be reunited with Batshuayi at Elland Road

According to The Telegraph, Leeds United is looking to sign Chelsea forward Michy Batshuayi with Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa working with the striker in the past back at French top-flight side Marseille.

The Belgian had an unsuccessful loan spell at Selhurst Park last season that saw him net only two Premier League goals.

It looks like the Belgian has done little to prove to his Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel, that he is worthy of staying at the club, let alone a place in the team’s starting eleven.

With only one year left in his contract at Stamford Bridge, it is no doubt that Chelsea will be looking to sell him.

Leeds United were offered Batshuayi for £22.6 million last summer, but it looks like they will sign him for a cheaper fee because of his underperformance in the 2020/21 season.

Signing the twenty-seven-year-old would be a big gamble for Bielsa. Batshuayi’s record has set the alarm bells ringing.

For every Borussia Dortmund loan spell where he scored seven goals in ten Bundesliga games, there is a stint at Valencia, where he scored once in fifteen games. If Bielsa wants Leeds to sign him, the fans are likely to be on board.

That would suggest that the Whites boss is confident he can get the best out of him. And that could be an exciting thought.

Batshuayi scored 26 league goals in 23 games at Marseille, many of which came while Bielsa was in charge.

The Belgian is only 27 years old and many will argue that he has plenty of time to get his career back on track. He will draw inspiration from Patrick Bamford, who had an unsuccessful spell at Chelsea and on loan at Crystal Palace, among other clubs.
