Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s manager, is said to be interested in signing Brighton defender Ben White this summer transfer window.
The England player has starred in the Premier League and now has the opportunity to shine at Euro 2020 later this month, which might further raise his profile.
According to the Daily Mirror, Arsenal has joined the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool in pursuing the £50 million-rated centre-back.
Arsenal might do well to leapfrog those teams to a deal like this, since White is expected to be a significant upgrade over their current defensive options.
If Arteta can secure his man with the transfer budget that the Mirror claims he will have available, it will go a long way toward helping the Spanish mastermind get his club back into Europe next season.
Man United also require a defensive signing, with White likely to be a step up from the underwhelming pairing of Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly.
Last season, the Red Devils were on the verge of challenging Manchester City for the title, so a signing like this may be money well spent to strengthen their defense.
Liverpool, on the other hand, are unlikely to require White as urgently as their competitors, having agreed to sign Ibrahima Konate in that position.
Still, with so many injuries at the defense last season, Jurgen Klopp’s team may believe it’s worth signing two new centre-backs just in case.
