The Reds have been linked with a summer transfer for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Florian Neuhaus. Following the departure of Georginio Wijnaldum, the Reds are in the market for a midfielder, and Neuhaus is understood to be on Jurgen Klopp’s radar.

The Reds are believed to have made contact with Neuhaus’ agents, although negotiations with Monchengladbach have yet to begin.

Now, Sport1’s head reporter Florian Plettenberg has revealed that Neuhaus is eager to “take the next step.”

Plettenberg points out, though, that Neuhaus wants to make sure it’s the “right step.”

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, he said: “Neuhaus wants to make the next step but he is also feeling very comfortable in Gladbach.

“He wants to make the right step but it is very important it is the best feeling for him in his stomach.

“This is something he has told me – he wants to have a good feeling in the talks and he wants to know that the next club is really interested in him.

“Real Madrid are also interested, and Bayern Munich, but for Bayern, he is too expensive this summer.

“Neuhaus is a big fan of Bayern Munich and his father is one of the biggest Bayern fans, so Bayern is totally in the race for him.

“But Neuhaus told me last week that he can imagine going abroad and he does not need to go to Bayern Munich – he is totally open and flexible.

“I think the only clubs who can pay for Neuhaus this summer are clubs from the Premier League and maybe Liverpool – Liverpool are the most interested club right now.”

Speaking to Sport1 recently, Neuhaus said: “I am a person who likes to dare something. I could very well imagine going abroad.

“I don’t necessarily have to go to Bayern Munich. But I don’t necessarily have to leave either, because I’m currently feeling very much at home at Borussia Mönchengladbach.

“I have big goals – and something was missing. What exactly? A title. I want to win titles in my career, that drives me. A year with a title win, that would really be a dream year.”

Speaking back in February, he said: “It’s really not that big of an issue for me now.

“I play at Borussia, I have a contract, and we as a club are still pursuing very big goals this season.

“I can’t say what will happen in the summer at the moment. I’m also very relaxed about the future. Borussia is a club where I was able to develop excellently and where everything is there. I know what I have about Borussia.”
