Leicester City’s pursuit of Sassuolo winger Domenico Berardi has received a potentially important boost.

In recent weeks, the Foxes have been linked with a bid for the Italian as Brendan Rodgers seeks to bolster his first-team squad.

Giovanni Carnevali, the CEO of Sassuolo, has now confirmed that he cannot guarantee Berardi’s future at the Mapei Stadium next season, giving Leicester hope that a deal can be reached.

“I cannot promise that Berardi will stay. It is not a question of money,” he was quoted as saying by Italian broadcaster Sportitalia (as reported by Inside Futbol).

The 26-year-old attacker has been one of Serie A’s best performers in recent years, scoring 86 goals and assisting 56 times in 238 top-flight games for his boyhood club, and suggestions that he could be available this summer would no doubt please Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers.

After a poor performance on loan at the King Power Stadium last season, Cengiz Under has returned to parent club AS Roma, leaving the Foxes short on options in the wide areas.

Berardi has a good reputation in his country for running down the wing with breakneck speed, cutting inside on his left foot, and burying the ball beyond the goalkeeper.

He’s had no trouble translating his impressive club performances to the international stage, providing two assists for the Azzurri in their Euro 2020 group stage matches.

Berardi’s likely addition to the FA Cup holders’ striking ranks would make them a formidable opponent for any Premier League defense next season, and fans will be hopeful that director of football Jon Rudkin can complete the transfer.
