Liverpool are close to completing the £30 million transfer of Renato Sanches.

It comes as the Reds hunt for a successor to Georginio Wijnaldum, who joined PSG earlier this summer.

Except for Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah, the Dutchman was a vital component in Klopp’s machine, playing more minutes than anybody else in the squad.

His departure, though, has unsettled Liverpool, who are anxious to reclaim the Premier League championship.

Yves Bissouma and Florian Neuhaus have also been linked with a transfer to Anfield to fill the Netherlands international’s shoes.

However, it looks that they are prepared to make a bid for Sanches, with a deal expected to close soon.

It might cost Liverpool as little as £30 million, with Lille willing to sell to boost their finances.

Portugese-based journalist Pedro Almeida said: “Renato Sanches to Liverpool is almost done. The Portuguese midfielder will sign for the English club for around €35million.”

The Portuguese was in terrific form last season, leading the Nord side to the Ligue 1 victory in a herculean effort ahead of the French giants Paris Saint-Germain.

Despite the fact that he is only 23, the midfielder has had an eventful career.

He made his mark for Portugal at Euro 2016 when he was voted Young Player of the Tournament, which led to a move from Benfica to Bayern Munich.

But his stay in Germany was short-lived, and it only got worse when he went on loan to Swansea City during a tough Premier League season.

However, in France, he has found his form, and the Amadora native still has unfinished business in England.

Sanches has also caught Arsenal’s interest, but the Gunners appear to have fallen behind Liverpool in the race for his signature, despite having a long list of other players on their wish list.
