The Hoops have been told that they would have to pay for Cameron Carter-Vickers if he wants to leave Tottenham permanently.

Celtic are still in talks with Spurs over the 23-year-old defender, but any possibility of a loan deal is out of the picture as the centre-back is keen to leave the North London club permanently.

As Ange Postecoglou attempts to improve his backline, Celtic will compete with Turkish giants Galatasaray and Fenerbahce for the top right back target Aurelio Buta.

The club is in hot pursuit of Buta who is valued at £3 million, but there are concerns that Istanbul’s interest could trigger a bidding war.

Celtic were willing to look into the possibility of a loan. Carter-Vickers, on the other hand, is dead set on leaving the Spurs after 12 years on the books.

According to a source close to the player: “Cameron needs a fresh start to kick start his career. A loan move is not something he’d be keen on.”

Spurs’ £5 million transfer fee for the eight-times capped United States defender, who is in the final year of his deal, could be a major obstacle, with Anderlecht and Brugge also interested.

Celts are in urgent need of recruits, with Olivier Ntcham the latest to leave after Parkhead chiefs decided to terminate his deal for the remainder of the season yesterday.

Ntcham’s future, however, will be elsewhere as the Frenchman posted an emotional farewell to Celtic fans on social media.

Ntcham said: “I would like to thank everyone at Celtic for the three-and-a-half years l was there.

“Thanks to all the coaching, the staff, the players and everyone working at the club. Finally, I would like to thank the loyal supporters who have always supported us.

“I wish you all the best for the future.”
