Liverpool and Netherlands star Virgil Van Dijk had an unexpected guest during his post-match interview in the match against Norway yesterday.

Netherlands got their 2022 World Cup qualifiers underway with a 1-1 draw  at the Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo, Norway.

Erling Haaland scored the opening goal 20 minutes after kick-off and Davy Klaasen grabbed the leveler 15 minutes later.

As captain, Van Dijk was approached by the media after the match and his interview was intruded by a civilian, presumably a fan who tried to embrace him.

Van Dijk kept his calm, moving out of the way before shoving the unwelcomed intruder away and carrying on with the interview like nothing happened.

The match was not really smooth for the captain as he suffered a dislocated finger and had to have it pushed back into place on the sidelines.

He came back on to finish the match and despite the injury, he is expected to play against Montenegro and Turkey over the next week.

Van Dijk spent 9 months out on injury last season after suffering an ACL injury and both Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and the faithful of Anfield will hope that the skipper will stay fit.

The centre back has helped Liverpool keep two clean sheets in their opening matches of the season before sharing the spoils with Champions League winners Chelsea on game week 3 after a 1-1 draw at Anfield.

The 30-year-old has recently opened up on the journey back to fitness.

Speaking to Liverpool Echo, this is what he had to say:

“Very good. I am proud, a lot of hard work so far has been put in to get where I am and obviously I’ve had a lot of help from my wife and my kids.

“Obviously the thing is I have played and the first one was very emotional and very tough for many reasons.
