Fabrizio Romano: Villa preparing contracts for Gerrard as Rangers exit nears

According to Sky Sports Italy journalist Fabrizio Romano, Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is getting closer to quitting his job at Ibrox.

Following the sacking of Dean Smith, the Daily Telegraph announced earlier today that Villa had reached an agreement to hire Gerrard as their new manager.

Within the next 48 hours, the deal will be finalized. Gary McAllister and Michael Beale, two crucial members of Gerrard’s backroom staff, will join him at Villa Park.

The Daily Record reported that Gerrard would become Villa’s highest-paid boss in the club’s history, and billionaire owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Eden have guaranteed him a large January transfer budget.

In addition, both teams agreed to a compensation package worth roughly £3 million.

Rangers will be devastated to lose Gerrard at this stage of the season, but Gers fans will see that it is a huge opportunity for him.

At Rangers, Gerrard will always be remembered as a hero. He took over as manager when the club was miles behind Celtic and moving in the wrong direction.

He transformed the team into a strong competitor in the league in three years, winning the Scottish Premiership last year and ending Celtic’s monopoly.

It appears that he will be officially confirmed as Villa’s new manager in the coming days.
