Ange Postecoglou reveals extent of Kyogo’s injury

Three points behind league leaders Rangers, who have a game in hand, Celtic need their squad in perfect shape to have a shot at reclaiming the title they lost to the current leaders last season.

Fate seems to be working against Ange’s side though, as his current top scorer, Kyogo, is out with a hamstring injury and might not be back any time soon.

The Japanese picked up the injury in early December, but was fit enough to aid Celtic in their League Cup win over Hibernian. The problem is clearly bigger than it initially seemed, though, and the 26-year-old has been ruled out indefinitely.

The Celts’ coach revealed that Furuhashi might be unavailable for at least a fortnight, adding that the real situation will be known soon. “…he hasn’t recovered from the injury…He’s not likely to feature in the next couple of weeks…hopefully midweek, we’ll know more, “said Ange.

Kyogo’s absence looks even more worrying with his national coach stating that the star won’t line up in his country’s fixtures scheduled for late January and early February.

Postecoglou has a new signing, Daizen Maeda, and a now fit Giorgos Giakoumaki to hold the fort, but his absence at such a time could affect Celtic’s Scottish Cup performance and increase Rangers’ lead atop the league table.
