Former Tottenham boss a top candidate to land Everton job

After a disappointing six months at Everton, Spanish coach Rafael Benitez was shown the door following a 2-1 away loss to 18th-placed Norwich City over the weekend.

The Toffees had an excellent start to the season and eyed a European spot in the first month, but back-to-back defeats saw those hopes slip away, leaving them in a possible relegation battle if things don’t look up soon.

Saturday’s loss to Norwich City was the last blow Everton could take under Benitez, whose side registered a third loss in four games, resulting in his sacking. The Toffees’ search for Rafa’s replacement has led them to set eyes on former Spurs’ manager, Espirito Santo, among others.

According to AS, a Spanish media outlet, despite the Portuguese’s unsatisfactory term at Tottenham, Everton have sought him out to help solve their poor performance and avoid a Championship possibility.

Nuno is on Everton’s list of possible replacements for Benitez. He supposedly performs best at mid-table clubs, so bringing him to Goodison Park could provide the much-needed relief for the Toffees, but he is not the only name on Everton’s list of possible replacements for Benitez.

Reportedly, Roberto Martinez could get another term at Everton, having managed the club between June 2013 and May 2016. Former Chelsea midfielder and coach Frank Lampard also makes the list, as does ex-Everton forward Wayne Rooney, currently managing Derby County.
