The transfer window closed yesterday at midnight, ushering in a morning of both expected and unexpected surprises in the football world.

Perhaps most players would want to play in the top flight rather than in the championship side, but that’s not the case with Irish midfielder, Jeff Hendrick, who is excited to leave Newcastle United for QPR on loan.

The 30-year old is contracted to the Magpies for four years, from 2020, and had no problem staying the whole term until his game time was drastically minimized following a red card last season.

For the whole of last month, for instance, the Republic of Ireland international hadn’t made a single start, managing a pitiful four substitute appearances, and he wasn’t satisfied. “Anyone who knows me well will know I will be disappointed with the game time I have got this season,” he said.

When a loan deal came by, albeit to a championship side, Hendrick grabbed the chance to prove himself, resulting in a successful loan move to White City before the winter transfer window closed yesterday.

QPR, who are currently fighting for promotion to the EPL, think Jeff Hendrick is the right person to push their side towards achieving that goal given his experience and quality, and are just as happy to have him.

“I am delighted to bring Jeff in. Jeff has shown his quality…on the international stage and in the Premier League…that championship experience…can be so important,” praised The Hoops manager, Mark Warburton.

It’s now up to the Irish to prove his worth, and perhaps help his side get back in the Premier League.
