Bruno Guimaraes sets Newcastle goal for next season

Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes believes they can qualify for the top European competition at the end of the next campaign if they make good use of the summer transfer window.

According to the Brazilian, Newcastle have a high chance of returning to continental football if they play their cards right in the summer transfer window.

Guimaraes is currently the most expensive acquisition under PIF ownership. The Magpies had a successful January transfer window after signing Dan Burn, Matt Targett and Kieran Trippier, who had an instant impact after his move from Atletico Madrid.

The recent additions in January saw Newcastle climb up the table, and Guimaraes believes much more could be achieved if smart signings are made.

The midfielder said: “The fans are passionate about the team, it’s different. We strengthened well. Next season I believe we will strengthen very well to claim, who knows, a spot in the Champions League, in the Europa League. It’s possible.

Guimaraes added; “From now on, it’s a team to compete to be the Premier League champions. I believe a lot in the project and I hope that everything works out as it was passed on to me.”

Despite Guimaraes’s optimism, qualifying for Europe may be too high a goal for Newcastle at this time.

When it comes to the Premier League, it’s one of the most difficult things for a non-Big Six club to finish in the top six, let alone the top four, and for the Toon, it will be a long time before they break into that pack.
