Crystal Palace senior star in advanced talks to sign new contract

Cheikhou Kouyate is in advanced contract negotiations with Crystal Palace, according to Football Insider.

Selhurst Park had been worried that the 32-year-old, whose contract expires in the summer, might be allowed to leave for free.

Sportsmail understands that Crystal Palace have offered the player a new contract and that he is ready to accept it in order to extend his tenure at Palace.

Patrick Viera’s team still relies heavily on Kouyate, who has made 26 appearances in all competitions this season.

Kouyate was also a significant member of Senegal’s African Cup of Nations-winning team in February.

The 78-cap ace has played in the Premier League in a variety of positions, including as a defender and a holding midfielder.

After making an impression with Belgian giants Anderlecht, Kouyate moved to West Ham in 2014.

In 2018, he signed a four-year contract with Crystal Palace. It is estimated that the club payed a sum of $11 million.

Despite his contract issue, Kouyate has been able to maintain his defensive midfield position.

Conor Gallagher, a loanee and fellow mainstay, has played with the 32-year-old for the majority of the season in a three-man midfield.

Under the guidance of Vieira, Crystal Palace are currently ninth in the Premier League. The Eagles will also face Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final on April 17 at Wembley.
