Rangers player bid lined up, £13m could seal the deal

Rangers’ owners are concerned that Alfredo Morelos might have played his final game for the team following his season-ending injury.

After sustaining a thigh injury while on international duty, the 25-year-old star striker is expected to undergo surgery.

A source at Ibrox has confirmed to Football Insider that the club is prepared to receive bids for Morelos this summer, with one offer already on the table.

The forward’s deal expires in the summer of 2023, so the upcoming transfer window is his final opportunity to fetch a high price for one of Rangers’ most prized assets.

Rangers’ efforts to secure a contract extension for Morelos have fallen through, so they may be forced to sell.

They will try to get a fee in the region of £13 million, citing his impressive performances in the Europa League as the primary justification.

With 19 goals and eight assists in 42 appearances, Morelos leads the Rangers attack this season.

With a 27-goal tally in the Europa League, he’s the all-time leading scorer for the Ibrox club in European competition.

Since signing from HJK Helsinki for £1 million in June 2017, he has scored 113 goals and provided 51 assists in 224 appearances.

Morelos missed Rangers’ 2-1 loss to Celtic and a six-point deficit in the Scottish Premiership title race on Sunday (3 April) due to the sustained injury.

This year’s Europa League campaign is over for him, as Rangers take on Braga in the first leg of their quarterfinal tonight (7 April).
