Scottish champions Celtic are plotting to seal the signing of Ben Crompton from EFL side Shrewsbury Town as the teenager is set to leave the club at the end of the current campaign.
The 18-year-old centre-back has been phenomenal for Shrewsbury, with the team’s board reported to be keen on keeping him in their backyard for longer.
However, with his destiny seemingly elsewhere, the promising defender looks set to seek new challenges away from Shrewsbury.
This is after he reportedly turned down a contract offer at Shrewsbury Town, with Celtic regarded as his potential destination.
In any case, if Crompton seals the predicted move, he will most likely join the Celtic B team that plays in the lower division of Scottish football.
The youngster has not featured for the Shrewsbury senior team but was earlier in the summer training with Steve Cotterill’s coached side.
Clubs across England have developed the culture of promoting their academy graduates to their respective senior sides, something that Shrewsbury Town were planning with transfer-bound Crompton.
It is believed the prodigy will not renew his contract with Shrewsbury upon its expiry this season.
