Leeds United are said to be lining up the move for former Manchester United coaching staff Chris Armas as Jesse Marsch’s assistant next term.

According to The Athletic, the Whites will be trying to avoid fighting another relegation battle next season after running an extra mile to survive in the recently concluded season.

Chris Armas parted ways with the Red Devils after a disastrous spell at Old Trafford in the summer, and Leeds will be eager to take advantage of his availability and tap into his experience in competitive fixtures.

The side is busy sealing existing gaps in their squad after registering massive progress in convincing Red Bull Salzburg star Brenden Aaronson to move to Elland Road.

Another target for Leeds United is Salzburg defender Rasmus Kristensen, who might join the English Premier League side in the transfer window.

Franz Schiemer is currently Jesse Marsch’s assistant, meaning he will be assigned a different role should Armas land at Elland Road.

Welshman Cameron Toshack is also on Marsch’s coaching staff, but that is reportedly not a hindrance to Armas’ pursuit.

Armas, 49, was a regular for the Chicago Fire and the United States in his playing days before venturing into coaching. He spent time training in women’s football before becoming Marsch’s assistant at the New York Red Bulls.

Former Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick took the American to Old Trafford for the Manchester United job in December 2021.
