Tottenham Hotspur are willing to let 26-year-old Giovanni Lo Celso join Spanish LaLiga outfit Atletico Madrid this summer, Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo claims.
The Argentine is being offered to Diego Simeone’s side as Fabio Paratici seeks to create space for new arrivals at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the transfer window.
Lo Celso has failed to impress in the Premier League since joining Spurs on loan during Mauricio Pochettino’s era. He played 84 times for Tottenham, with only eight goals in that duration.
Despite his contract at Spurs running until 2025, Lo Celso does not look to be on Antonio Conte’s mind in the coming days in London.
Lo Celso expects to continue playing for La Liga side Villarreal after spending the second half of last season with the Yellow Submarine. He went on to play 22 times to inspire Villarreal to reach the Champions League semi-finals last campaign.
After returning to Tottenham upon the expiry of his loan move, Villarreal are now offering an initial £16 million for his services, plus £5 million in add-ons.
However, contrary reports say he has been offered to former LaLiga champions Atletico Madrid instead.
With Villarreal failing to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League and Europa League, it comes as a good deal for Lo Celso to play in the Champions League with Atletico Madrid rather than waste time on the bench at Tottenham.
Atleti finished in third, qualifying for the Champions League. It will be profitable if Spurs receive an offer in the region of £25 million for Lo Celso.
