Newcastle United’s summer transfer window hasn’t started off as brightly as some might have hoped.

The Magpies splashed the cash on a number of players during the January transfer window, notably Bruno Guimaraes, who helped them win their Premier League relegation battle handily.

Newcastle’s 2-0 win over Arsenal at home in the Premier League’s penultimate gameweek confirmed that they were on the right track.

At St. James’s Park, the Magpies have been rather quiet so far this offseason, with the exception of making Matt Targett’s loan move to a permanent one.

The 17-year-old is now preparing to embark on an adventure in the North-East, according to The Athletic.

Newcastle have agreed personal terms with McArthur, who will sign for about £350,000, according to The Athletic.

As an under-18 footballer, he is only allowed to sign a three-year contract with the Magpies.

Although he appears to be an unknown quantity at the moment, this is a significant coup for the Tyneside club.

Liverpool and Manchester City were said to be sniffing about McArthur [Football Scotland] in December, so Newcastle’s victory is a feather in their crown and additional proof that they’re on the right track.
