From being among the most qualified to play at the Paris Masters when he won in 2016, to entering through a wild card five years later, the 34-year-old Murray is determined to get back some of his glory when he plays starting today.
Murray plays against the current World No. 59, 21-year old Jenson Brooksby, tonight, and he (Murray) will surely want to win after being humbled by another youngster last week.
The three-time grand slam winner has lost his recent matches by very small margins, and most were after he failed to capitalize on his chances, but Andy seems to have had and learnt enough from those defeats.
Murray stated that he feels things are going to turn for the better soon, and he will not keep getting out in the first or second round. “I’m not going to keep losing in the second and third round,” he stated.
The Briton believes that if he is more consistent, clinical and ruthless, he will have more victories. “…a little bit more consistency, … a little bit more clinical and…ruthless, I will start winning more,” Andy observed.
Andy has suffered most of his recent defeats in the second or third round against top 50 opponents, so if he wins this first round and goes up against a top ten seed like Auger-Alliasme, whom he has lost to before, the Scot must dig dip to win.
Despite that, the 2016 Paris Masters winner believes that he will get past the second or third round hurdles sooner rather than later. “There are no easy matches. But it will happen sooner rather than later I think.”
