Celtic have found their top form in recent weeks and will hope to carry it into their Europa League match against Bayer Leverkusen today. In as much as they are in super form, facing the German side of the road won’t be an easy ask, and Postecoglou is well aware of that.
To keep their European campaign going, the Celts must get their first ever win from thirteen in Germany, or bet on a Real Betis loss at home. Ange believes that any effort short of Celtic’s absolute best will be disastrous.
“Spot on and that’s the only way you can measure it,” he stated, emphasizing that they’ll have less to regret and more to learn if their best efforts can’t crash Leverkusen. “…at least we’ll know we’ve given it all and …where we need to improve.”
But Postecoglou doesn’t just view his side’s opponents as Europa League teams. He thinks they (Leverkusen) are beyond that, and to face them, full concentration is paramount. “…they’re a Champions League side…that will wait on any mistakes we make and punish us,” he observed.
In their first leg, Gerardo Seoane’s boys capitalized on The Hoops’ mistakes to get four goals and three points on the road, but Ange is assured of a better performance since his side is apparently more settled than they were then, and he has a number of in-form top players.
On injury updates, Ange said Steven Welsh is fit, Tom Rogic and Carl Starfelt are days away from returning, while Giakoumakis is still under watch. Hopefully, Celtic can keep the fire burning at Bay Arena tonight.
