In an apparent attempt to leave Aston Villa before the transfer deadline, Frederic Guilbert wrote on Twitter, “Here we go again for the longest week of the year.”
The 27-year-old was mostly ignored by Steven Gerrard during the preseason, and he hasn’t been included in a single matchday team for the next season.
Guilbert participated in the first preseason game for Villa in Australia, but he only received 45 minutes of playing time for Gerrard there, and he hasn’t played since in senior colours.
He has been playing on loan in France for the past two seasons, and considering what Gerrard thinks of the player, it is clear that his career lies elsewhere.
The right-back has reportedly been practising with the reserves ahead of Thursday’s deadline, and it has been reported that Villa has lowered their asking price for him.
“Here we go again for the longest week of the year,” said Guilbert.
After his team’s 1-0 loss to West Ham United on Sunday, the fans are simply not having Gerrard as their manager. At the pace he is going, he will leave the Villa exit door before Guilbert.
Whether Guilbert is competent or not, one thing is certain: he deserved better respect than what he has been receiving lately.
The same could be said for El Ghazi, a player who assisted Villa in getting promoted but is also a former star who trains with the young players.
In any case, with Gerrard under intense pressure, it will be intriguing to observe how much money Villa spends on incomings over the next few days and who leaves.
