According to Football Insider, Aston Villa are keen on recruiting Rangers star Filip Helander this summer.
On Monday (18 April), Football Insider reported that Villa are looking for a left-sided centre-back for the summer transfer window.
Steven Gerrard is a huge fan of Helander, 28, and is keeping a close eye on his situation.
The former Ibrox boss, though, is concerned about the Sweden international’s injury record, which may deter him from agreeing to a deal.
After missing much of this season due to knee surgery, the centre-back was recently ruled out for the remainder of the season with a foot issue.
Gerrard, on the other hand, is fully aware of Helander’s abilities. In the Rangers’ title-winning 2020–21 season, the centre-back played a key part with Connor Goldson.
Last season, the Gers went undefeated in the league, conceding only 13 goals.
With Gerrard considering a complete overhaul of his team this summer, Villa are looking for a centre-back.
Tyrone Mings, the club captain, hasn’t convinced Gerrard, and he wants to rebuild his defense.
In 29 Premier League games this season, he has one goal and three assists. His Villa Park contract runs until the summer of 2024.
