Barcelona has announced that their captain, Sergio Busquets, has suffered a sprained ankle ligament that caused him to miss the team’s win over Sevilla.
Busquets had to be substituted in the early minutes of the game due to the injury and will be out of action for a period of time.
“Tests carried out this morning have revealed that Sergio Busquets has a lateral collateral ligament sprain in his left ankle. He is out and his recovery will determine his availability,” read a statement from Barcelona.
The estimated time frame for Busquets’ absence is 2 to 3 weeks, during which he will miss several La Liga matches.
As a result of his injury, Busquets may also miss the two Europa League play-off games against Manchester United.
The first match against Manchester United, led by Erik ten Hag, will take place on Thursday, 16th February at the Camp Nou, followed by the return leg at Old Trafford the following week.
