The Northern Echo reports that newly promoted Premier League side Bournemouth will try to re-sign Matt Ritchie from Newcastle United.

Bournemouth manager Scott Parker will be attempting to bring back Ritchie under his fold, with the 32-year-old entering the final year of his Newcastle contract.

Ritchie swapped Bournemouth for Newcastle United six years ago, after the Magpies had been relegated from the English Premier League.

He has, in the process, risen to become a key player for the Toon, registering 188 appearances for the St James Park club.

Ritchie has been involved in 57 goals since decamping to Newcastle United, but he does not appear to be in Eddie Howe’s future plans at the club.

Instead, Howe prefers the likes of Allan Saint-Maximin, Ryan Fraser and Miguel Almiron out wide, as Matty Targett has penned a permanent deal at left-back.

With Ritchie heading into the last 12 months of his £45k per week deal with Newcastle, the chances of renewing the particular contract are minimal.

Having played 142 times for Bournemouth, it will be a good decision for him to rejoin the Cherries based on his last experience with the side.

The return to Bournemouth will arguably make sense for Ritchie as he risks a lack of game time at the Magpies in the beckoning 2022/23 Premier League season.
