Ange Postecoglou’s side are close to recruiting Riley McGree from Charlotte FC. He will be Celtic’s fifth addition if he moves to Parkhead.
The Daily Mail reported that the Hoops are closing in on a deal with McGree ahead of Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough.
Charlotte FC’s McGree has been at Birmingham on loan for the last 18 months, getting lots of support from the fans at St Andrew.
He has netted three goals and provided two assists for Birmingham, and was to return to Charlotte FC this month.
The 23-year-old was an outstanding player at Adelaide United before moving to Club Brugge.
McGree later had loan spells at Melbourne City and Newcastle Jets before permanently rejoining Adelaide United.
With seven appearances for Australia, the youngster has a promising future ahead, and the Celtic boss is fully aware of his capabilities.
The Hoops needed a new playmaker, with David Turnbull injured. Celtic need a versatile player who can play in different roles, and McGree is the right player.
Postecoglou will benefit from McGree’s versatility, and Birmingham manager Lee Bowyer has described him as a “luxury player” who is also prepared to put in the effort.
McGree’s magic may turn him into a Celtic superstar, especially if he’s willing to put in the effort.
