Crystal Palace announced the signing of Odsonne Edouard from Celtic last night as the transfer window shut.
Edouard had turned down multiple attempts by the club to renew his contract to achieve his dream of playing in the Premier League.
The 23-year-old has signed a 4-year contract at Selhurst Park with an option of an additional 5th year worth £70,000 per week plus bonuses.
Speaking ahead of the news, Edouard had this to say:
“I can’t [wait] start to train with the team and to play for this club… Scoring goals in the Premier League may be the biggest challenge in my career. But I’m confident in myself and my teammates to be successful.”
His arrival wraps up a busy summer for Palace, with Marc Guehi, Joachim Andersen, Conor Gallagher, Michael Olise and Will Hughes being the latest additions to Patrick Vieira’s side.
Edouard had been linked to a couple of English top flight clubs this summer, with the likes of Leicester and West Ham being put off by the Hoops asking price and the player’s wage demand.
A Celtic source has revealed that Palace has paid an initial £15 million for the forward but the fee is set to amount to £20 million including add-ons.
The Hoops are however, set to share some of those earnings with Edouard’s old club, Paris Saint-Germain.
Edouard moved to Glasgow from PSG initially on a season long loan before signing a 4-year permanent deal with the club in 2018, making him the club’s record signing at the time.
Thanks to a sell-on clause that is part of the deal made between Celtic and PSG, the Ligue 1 giants are entitled to 30 per cent of profits made from the sale of the French striker.
The transfer has paved way for Celtic to bring in a new striker, with Giorgos Giakoumakis arriving on deadline day as one of three summer signings.
Giorgos will compete for a spot with Kyogo Furuhashi, who has been marvelous for the club since his arrival.
