Celtic in talks with Spurs over Joe Hart

Celtic set to sign Tottenham goalkeeper on Tuesday

According to Fabrizio Romano, Celtic have begun negotiations with Tottenham Hotspur about recruiting goalkeeper Joe Hart. A deal to bring Hart to Celtic Park would give the former England goalie a second chance at being a first-team goalkeeper.

The Celtics’ desire to sign Hart is logical. The two-time Premier League champion and former Manchester City shot-stopper has an undeniable history in the game. Hart has a remarkable 75 appearances for England at the international level.

In recent years, Celtic’s goalkeeping has been a major source of concern. Vasilis Barkas, a Greek player who joined the club this summer but has yet to make an impression, was to blame for Midtjylland’s important equalizer in the Champions League qualification second round last week.

Signing Hart, on the other hand, might not be a risk-free move for new Hoops coach Ange Postecoglou. Since departing Torino after a disappointing loan spell in 2017, the Spurs goalie has spent most of his time on the subs’ bench at the Hammers and Burnley. After relocating to north London to serve as a back-up goalkeeper for France’s Hugo Lloris, Hart was yet again limited to little playing time.

Despite this, Celtic’s need for a new goalkeeper is getting more pressing. It would be a brilliant move on Postecoglou’s part if Hart could regain his best form in the Scottish Premiership.
