Celtic forward Leigh Griffiths is likely to depart as a free agent after his deal with the Bhoys was terminated.

Celtic have allegedly activated a clause in Griffiths’ contract inked last summer, according to the Daily Record.

Griffiths agreed on a one-year contract with Celtic, but it appears that the club had the option to terminate it during the January transfer window.

Griffiths is said to have been notified of Celtic’s decision, leaving him uncertain about his future.

Griffiths is expected to continue with Dundee until the end of January, according to reports.

Dundee had intended to release Griffiths back to Celtic, but boss James McPake has decided to keep him after discovering that the Bhoys are dropping him.

Griffiths, who scored 40 goals in all competitions during the 2015-16 season, has taken a step back.

Since Neil Lennon recruited him in January 2014, he has scored 123 goals in 261 games for Celtic, an absolutely outstanding record in the green and white hoops.

Griffiths, now 31, isn’t quite finished; if a team can get him fit and firing, he still has a lot to give.

Griffiths will almost certainly be signed on a free transfer by another team, but Celtic have determined that there’s no way back for him at Parkhead.
