Scottish side Celtic will have to dig deeper and pay Benfica the required 30% sell-out fee for Filipe Jota in any future transfer.
It is, however, reported that the demand will not be a determinant in the particular deal involving the Portuguese winger as both Celtic and Benfica continue with negotiations.
It is also believed that the Portuguese club is keen on sealing a £6.5 million deal for the midfielder in demand. Jota has been an integral part of Celtic since joining the team in August on a season-long loan from Benfica.
He has created an instant impact at Celtic, and thus the club’s high hierarchy is burning the midnight oil to retain him permanently.
Celtic has been reaping big from such instances. The side profited a lot from Virgil van Dijk and Victor Wanyama’s moves from Southampton to Liverpool and Spurs, respectively.
A similar sell-out clause will also apply in the deal involving Kieran Tierney’s £25 million move to English Premier League outfit Arsenal in the summer of 2019.
Tierney’s will earn Celtic a profit should he receive offers from other interested teams.
Jota is most likely to sign a four-or five-year contract with Celtic as his temporary contract expires in a month’s time.
Celtic are focusing on winning their tenth title in 11 years, and the permanent move of Filipe Jota will be an added advantage in their quest.
