Chelsea set to win £40m Kudus race as Arsenal face financial woes

Chelsea are set to beat Arsenal to the signing of Ajax star Mohammed Kudus this summer.

The 22-year-old Ghanaian has impressed in the Dutch league and at the World Cup in December and is ready to leave Ajax for £40million.

Arsenal are also interested in Kudus, who can play as a striker, a winger or an attacking midfielder.

However, they are unlikely to afford him after spending over £200million on new arrivals like Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber and Kai Havertz. They also need to sell at least eight players before they can buy more.

Chelsea have more money to spend after selling players worth over £220million this summer. They have already brought in Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson, but Mauricio Pochettino wants more options in attack.

He has contacted Ajax about Kudus, who is expected to agree personal terms with the Blues.

Arsenal fans may be reminded of how they lost Mykhailo Mudryk to Chelsea in January, but the situation is different now.

Mikel Arteta has enough quality attackers like Leandro Trossard, Eddie Nketiah and Reiss Nelson, who can compete with Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.

Kudus may not be a priority for Arsenal, but he could be a great addition for Chelsea.
