Dumfries rejects Everton for Inter Milan

Denzel Dumfries has rejected the chance to join Everton and now Inter Milan have agreed terms with PSV to sign the right back. This is according to Italian news outlet Corriere dello Sport, who report that the Dutch club have accepted an offer from the Nerazzurri for €12.5 million plus bonuses for the 25-year-old, worth €14 million in total.

The player is expected to fly to Milan either today or tomorrow to immediately start life as an Inter player, with only the last few documents remaining to be exchanged before the deal is fully wrapped up.

The manager will be able to work with the player even sooner, with negotiations having gone very swiftly once the Nerazzurri made an offer to buy the player on a permanent basis rather than take him on loan, with PSV not standing in the way of a deal and the player’s agent Mino Raiola facilitating the deal.

Everton had been heavily linked with the Dutchman this summer, with the Tophees looking for further options in right back with Seamus Coleman in the twilight of his career.

The move to San Siro has been accelerated by the Nerazzuri’s adamant ambition to bring him in after the departure of forward Romelu Lukaku.

Dumfries is coming in to replace Moroccan Achraf Hakimi who left the club to join Paris Saint-Germain last month.

In 124 appearances for PSV, Dumfries has notched 16 goals and 20 assists through all competitions. He was a constant threat in the final third and had 10 and 8 goal contributions respectively in the last two Eredivisie seasons. Dumfries was a regular for PSV but burst onto the stage this summer with the Netherlands at the Euros, scoring twice for the Oranje. Dumfries also averaged 2.29 shots created and 31 touches in the final third per 90. Dumfries’ defensive stats, however, are rather mediocre and could put a greater workload on Milan’s Skriniar’s shoulders. To be fair to Dumfries, he spent most of his time at PSV in the attacking half and had 3.53 pressures and 1.94 interceptions per 90.
