During the winter transfer market, Aston Villa signed two players: Álex Moreno from Real Betis and Jhon Durán from Chicago Fire FC.
This was the first transfer window for the Villans since Unai Emery became the club’s manager last year.
Currently, Aston Villa is in 11th place in the table, tied on points with Chelsea, who is in 10th place.
According to Marca, Aston Villa is preparing an ambitious project for the future under the leadership of Unai Emery.
The club wanted to bring in Barcelona sporting director Mateu Alemany to help with this project.
Emery, who knows Alemany well, requested that the Aston Villa board bring him in. To entice him, Aston Villa offered Alemany a deal that would double his current salary.
However, Alemany declined the offer and decided to stay with Barcelona until his contract ends in 2024.
Marca suggests that it is not about the money for Alemany but rather his commitment to Barcelona.
Johan Lange has been Aston Villa’s sporting director since he joined the club from FC Copenhagen in July 2020.
