The Toffees’ form is on worrying downhill, registering their worst winless run in 16 years. Constant countless injuries in Benitez’s midfield have been a main cause of concern for Everton, making another such case a nightmare, and it seems Goodison Park is deep in those.

Rafa Benitez is struggling to make his side barely survive with three central midfielders (Doucoure, Gomes and Davies) out on injury. Things got worse when Allan sustained a muscle injury during the side’s defeat to Manchester City, and the situation was worrying enough to require treatment yesterday.

Benitez is not sure if Allan will make Sunday’s team against Brentford, leaving the Blues in a precarious position as most first teamers are either injured or suspended (Holgate and Richarlison).

Concerning Allan, Benitez can only rely on hope that the central midfielder stays available after treatment. “I hope so. He was having some treatment today but my feeling is he will be fine,” said Rafa.

If the Brazilian joins his fellow central midfielders and the likes of Calvert-Lewin and Mina on the sidelines, Everton might not have enough in their tank to be Brentford’s opponents, let alone end the winless streak.

The good news is that Doucoure has a chance of being passed fit to face The Bees and fill the gap left by Allan if he (Allan) is ruled unfit, but Rafa will be even more at ease if both players can travel to West London.
