First-team player now expected to leave as Leeds aim to sign new player in his position
The future of Illan Meslier at Leeds United has been revealed as Newcastle keeper Karl Darlow wants a move, according to NUFC Blog.
The trustworthy source for all things coming from St James’ Park reports [22 July] that the 32-year-old favours Leeds over Bournemouth this summer.
As the Whites plan to give the English keeper regular playing time, Meslier is now likely to leave.
Meslier had a poor 2022/23 season and even lost his place in the Whites starting line-up after Sam Allardyce took over.
Joel Robles, who replaced him, is no longer at Elland Road so the Frenchman is the default first choice for Daniel Farke.
However, interest in signing another keeper means that Farke may not be fully convinced that Meslier is the right man in goal.
He was linked with clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United not too long ago, and still has the potential to become a top keeper.
Therefore, a loan move could be ideal for him as he could be a future first-choice keeper once he recovers his form and confidence.
It remains to be seen if he’s open to that or if he feels that a permanent departure will be ideal for him.
