Cape Town City aims to continue their impressive recent performance in the DStv Premiership as they prepare to face Royal AM this Friday in pursuit of a milestone in the club's history.
Under Eric Tinkler's management, the team is vying for a fifth consecutive league win, a feat they've never accomplished in their relatively brief existence.
Despite having clinched four consecutive victories on multiple occasions since their establishment in the 2016/17 season (when owner John Comitis acquired Mpumalanga Black Ace and relocated the club to Cape Town), achieving a fifth consecutive win remains uncharted territory.
This milestone is the team's goal, especially following a period earlier in the season when they suffered four straight league defeats.
A victory against Royal AM could potentially propel Cape Town City to second place in the standings, trailing Mamelodi Sundowns by two points, albeit having played four more games.
The club's positioning in the league is quite respectable, considering that they've had to play seven of their first 11 DStv Premiership games away due to renovations on the pitch at the Cape Town Stadium. However, by the halfway mark of the season, they will have played nine out of 15 games away.
Consequently, the latter part of the campaign will see them predominantly playing at home, a venue where they have historically performed exceptionally well, having lost only four of their last 36 home matches in the league.
Regarding their encounters with Royal AM since their first clash in 2021, Cape Town City holds a 3-2 lead in the head-to-head record with one draw. In Cape Town, both teams have each secured a victory, resulting in a draw in three matches.
