Alan Hutton expresses his delight for Douglas Luiz following the Aston Villa midfielder's selection for the Brazil squad during the upcoming international break.
Luiz, aged 25, has displayed exceptional form for the Villans this season, netting six goals in 17 matches across various competitions.
Having previously received a call-up to the Brazil team in October 2021, the former Manchester City midfielder is now poised to join the squad for the World Cup 2026 qualifiers against Colombia and Argentina later this month.
Hutton admits Luiz has proven him wrong with his displays this season.
“It’s absolutely deserved,” Hutton told Villa News.
“He’s shown that he’s playing at a high level every week and he’s added goals to his game.
“I thought he was a defensive midfielder and that was all he had but it’s not. He bursts forward, he gets the ball into the box, his set-plays are excellent, whether they be free-kicks or corners.
“The big thing has been adding goals to his game.
“He deserves a call-up and for me, it’s the strongest league in the world so if you’re playing at a high level within that league, why wouldn’t you?
“Even though it’s Brazil, why wouldn’t you be in the mentioning for your national team? It’s brilliant for him.”
In his Daily Briefing on October 23, Fabrizio Romano mentioned that Arsenal, along with numerous other clubs, are pursuing the signing of Luiz because of his impressive performance for Aston Villa this season.
