Cole Palmer secured a last-minute penalty against his former team as Chelsea staged a remarkable comeback three times to earn a 4-4 draw in an exhilarating clash with Manchester City.
Pep Guardiola's team had dominated their recent encounters, winning all six matches since the 2021 Champions League final without conceding a goal.
The trend seemed set to continue as Erling Haaland converted a controversial penalty, but Chelsea responded swiftly with Thiago Silva's header and Raheem Sterling scoring against his former club.
However, Manuel Akanji's header in added time of the first half brought City back on level terms.
The excitement persisted after halftime at Stamford Bridge, with Haaland scoring within 90 seconds to put City ahead once again.
Chelsea, undeterred, equalized midway through the second half when Conor Gallagher's shot was saved, and Nicolas Jackson capitalized on the rebound.
Malo Guston missed a golden opportunity to put Chelsea ahead, blasting over the bar when free in the box.
In a dramatic turn, City regained the lead with just four minutes of normal time remaining, courtesy of Rodri's deflected strike off Silva.
However, Palmer had the final word against the club he departed a few months ago. Ruben Dias fouled Armando Broja in the box, providing Palmer the opportunity to convert a penalty into the top corner in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
