Barely 48 hours after his appointment as manager of Everton, former Chelsea manager and player Frank Lampard is nearing a deal with Ashley Cole, who will join the long list of ex-Chelsea players (at least three) he has brought to Goodison Park.
According to The Daily Mail, the 43-year old has led Everton to hold talks with Cole, who currently assists with the England U-21 team, and the Toffees believe they’ll pull Cole in.
Lampard’s backroom team includes a number of men formally from Chelsea, including Joe Edwards and Chris Jones, with only a few previous team members remaining, including Benitez’s immediate stand-in, Duncan Ferguson.
Cole’s addition could strengthen Everton’s coaching staff even more, as it will be comprised of not just experts, but those who can work well together thanks to past experience.
Currently 16th placed and only four points safe from relegation, the Toffees’ redemption hopes now lie in their upcoming FA Cup fourth round clash against 14th placed Brentford, which will be their first game with Frank in charge.
Despite acquiring van de Beek from United on loan and Dele Ali permanently, Lampard’s line-up against the Bees on Saturday won’t include the two, and the Toffees can only hope that their form improves under Frank and his new staff.
