Manchester United ace Jesse Lingard looked likely to make a permanent move to West Ham in the summer after his successful loan spell with the Hammers last season.

Former Manchester United right back, Gary Neville has made clear his disappointment in Jesse Lingard’s decision to stay at Old Trafford saying that it is a mistake, despite West Ham’s public show of interest in him this summer.

The English football pundit, speaking to Sky Sports had this to say:

“I’m disappointed Jesse Lingard hasn’t left,” he said.

“He’ll get a few games but I think he had something going at West Ham that meant he was standing up as a really good player and to go back into being a squad player again, it’s disappointing.

“Sometimes you need to fly the nest and go.”

West Ham source ExWHUemployee revealed earlier this week that chances of Lingard making a return to London Stadium were slim largely because of what has been termed as family commitments in Manchester.

Though the personal reason justifies his stay in Manchester, many football fans will be daunted to see the 28-year-old spend majority of the season on the sidelines.

With new arrivals, Jadon sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo coming in this summer for United, Lingard will most likely move back in Solksjaer’s  line of options.

However, Lingard is in the final year of his contract, meaning that West Ham could yet land the Manchester United academy graduate in future .especially if Lingard refuses to sign a new contract or United refuse to renew his contract now that their squad is packed to the maximum.

Lingard redeemed his name after showcasing brilliant performances at West Ham and is undoubtedly one of the stars of the second half of the 2020-21 Premier League season. He reasserted himself back into Gareth Southgate’s squad and many feel that staying at United is taking a step back.

The England man hit scored 9 goals and made 4 assists in 16 Premier League appearances after joining on loan in January.
