It’s worrying not just for Romania but also for Rangers after Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s revelation that striker Ianis Hagi might not play for the rest of 2022 following his now 6-month knee injury.
After half a year of rehabilitation for the knee ligament injury he picked up in January while lining up for Rangers, the 23-year old Romanian is apparently still far from fit to even be considered, let alone play.
Following coach Giovanni’s statement, the star’s father, Gheorghe, has revealed his own thoughts about his son’s progress, terming it “well” so far.
As much as he and many others want Ianis back asap, the senior Hagi admitted that his son’s injury was “pretty serious”, stating that the latter would only get back on the field when he’s in perfect shape, not a day earlier.
Unlike van Bronckhorst, though, Gheorghe didn’t specifically place a time period on the Romanian international’s return, which means it could be earlier or later than what the Rangers’ coach approximated.
Hopefully, it’s the former, because otherwise, the Gers will have to find other options to avoid their situation last season, when, according to Giovanni, they “were lacking a little bit of depth” after losing the likes of Ianis.
All the best to the Rangers No. 7 as he battles this difficult period.
