Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou will receive a boost to his squad as Giorgos Giakoumakis is set to make his Celtic debut at Aberdeen on Sunday
The Greece international was on the team sheet as a substitute for the Premier Sports Cup tie against Raith Rovers but suffered an injury while warming up.
The club has suffered massively, following multiple players being out injured. This has left Albian Ajeti as Ange’s only option up front, but the Swiss has failed to score in his last 3 appearances.
Ajeti had a promising start, bagging three goals against Ross County and Real Betis, but his form has dropped since then.
Giakoumakis, Eredivisie’s top scorer last season, is set to give Postecoglou some crucial reinforcement in attack.
When asked about Giakoumakis after yesterday’s match, Postecoglou revealed that the forward might be fit to feature in the coming weekend if he gets a full week of training.
Postecoglou told The Sun:
“The scan came back actually more positive than we thought so we’re hoping he’ll get back into training this week. If Giakoumakis gets a full week of training we’re quite hopeful for next weekend.”
The Hoops have now dropped 11 points in 7 matches, following the 1-1 draw with Dundee at Parkhead on Sunday.
Thursday’s Europa League clash with Bayer Leverkusen will be too soon for the former VVV-Venlo striker to feature, but the gaffer is hopeful he will be available at Aberdeen on Sunday
“He only really missed two days of training and had a session (on Sunday). Hopefully he’ll be back training with the group early in the week.”
