Lewis Hamilton has raced with Mercedes for eight years now, and won six of his seven championships with them. The 2020 champion joined his current side from McLaren and has stayed put since then, but not for lack of another choice.
The current Formula One CEO, Stefano Domenicali wanted him to join Ferrari when he was The Prancing Horse’s team principal, and the defending F1 champion considered it, fleetingly.
Hamilton says “…the idea of going to Ferrari was short-lived…,” explaining that he only considered it because he was given options to choose from at each season’s end, otherwise, he had “…no reason to think about it.”
Explaining why he didn’t consider it long or make an actual move to Ferrari, the seven-time world champion proudly said his current team is a lifetime family.
“…when you are with Mercedes, you are with a family for life,” the 36-year old stressed, justifying that statement with the fact that various drivers have remained with Mercedes till their 90’s.
Further, the only black F1 driver ever revealed that he is proud of his team because of the long times drivers stay there, which is unlike the situation in all other teams.
According to him, loyalty and teamwork are to thank for Mercedes arguable unprecedented glory in Formula One. “…and that is down to great teamwork, that is down to loyalty.”
The record 100-time race winner revealed that he took pride in what he has, and where he is with his team and cannot ignore that. “I am really proud of what I have and where I am with Mercedes…so I don’t take that for granted.” Hamilton said.
This further enunciated his words that his move to Ferrari was nothing but a passing thought
